Chateau Macquin Saint Emilion 2021
13%
The family-owned Château Macquin, located between Saint-Julien-de-Beychevelle and Pauillac, boasts south-facing vines up to 60 years old. The deep ruby red wine offers enticing aromas of ripe red cherry, cassis, and a hint of liquorice. The full-bodied palate presents silky, ripe tannins, with concentrated flavors of ripe red fruits, tobacco, and graphite, balanced by lifted acidity. Fermentation and malolactic fermentation occurred in temperature-controlled stainless-steel tanks, with one-third of the wine aging in 25% new French oak for one year, providing structure and complexity. Managed organically, Château Macquin has a storied history dating back to 1885, with vines averaging 40 years old. The vineyards are sustainably farmed without harmful chemicals, making the 2021 blend of 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Sauvignon an affordable yet extremely rewarding wine that the Panel is pleased to recommend to Members. This wine is enjoyable now and expected to age beautifully, offering a rewarding experience for up to seven years, making it a wise investment for enthusiasts looking to cellar and savor its evolving character over time.
