Lindores Thiron Single Malt
Lindores Thiron Single Malt
This inaugural release marks the beginning of a special series, showcasing the exclusive 'Thiron' French Virgin Oak Casks, pronounced 'tee-ron,' crafted solely for Lindores Abbey Distillery. Hewn from the ancient oaks of the Thiron-Gardais forests, these casks are steeped in history, reflecting a bond that began in 1191 when monks from Thiron founded Lindores Abbey. This connection endures, as Lindores founders Drew and Helen McKenzie Smith, who commissioned these unique casks in 2018, have even returned to Thiron to plant new oaks in place of those used for this exceptional whisky.
The resulting Lowland Single Malt Scotch Whisky is a testament to the legacy of the Tironensian monks who helped shape the early days of Scotch whisky. Each sip takes you on a journey through time, nurtured in virgin oak casks that bridge centuries between the two abbeys. This whisky, matured in a harmonious blend of first-fill bourbon casks, red wine barriques, and French Virgin oak, boasts an unparalleled character. It reveals aromas of mellow vanilla cake, caramel syrup, baking spices, and fruity plum jam, leading to flavors of oaky vanilla, butterscotch, and cinnamon, with hints of ginger and roasted chestnuts.
The whisky is complex and finely balanced, with a delightful finish and the smooth, silky texture that defines the Lindores spirit. It is not just a whisky, but a tribute to the enduring connection between past and present.
