Alter Ribeiro Tinto

Alter, recommended by Lalo Antón, is a family-run winery founded in 2014 along the Miño River. With 24 hectares of 15-30-year-old vineyards, Alter focuses on native varieties like Treixadura, Godello, Loureira, Brancellao, and Sousón. The Ribeiro Blanco offers semi-aromatic notes of white flowers, grapefruit, and green apple, while the Ribeiro Tinto, a blend of Sousón and Brancellao, presents bright cherry aromas and a balanced palate with liquorice spiciness and mineral undertones. The 2018 vintage, marked by less winter rainfall and a mild, wet summer, produced wines with exceptional complexity. Hand-harvested from 168 small plots, the Ribeiro Tinto undergoes 10 days of maceration, resulting in an enticing wine with intense red fruit aromas, a crunchy redcurrant profile, and elegant silky tannins—a superb representation of Spain's indigenous, Atlantic red varieties.
