A historic Italian aperitif from Piemonte, first created in 1891 by Giulio Cocchi, and still made to the original recipe today. Technically an aromatised wine (closer to a quinquina than true vermouth), it sits right between vermouth and bitter liqueur in style.

Bright, complex and unmistakable, it combines a white wine base (often Moscato) with a blend of botanicals including gentian, wormwood, cinchona (quinine), bitter orange peel and elderflower.

Tasting Notes

An Italian aperitif, Cocchi Americano has become a popular alternative to the original Kina Lillet. Importantly, it has more quinine bitterness than Lillet Blanc although it is also more spiced in character. The Vesper from Ian Fleming's 1953 book, Casino Royal and the Corpse Reviver #2 are popular cocktails that come to life with Cocchi Americano.
