The palate unfolds with impressive depth, offering abundant sweet blackberry and cherry flavors, complemented by a lively kick of black pepper spice. Dauvergne Ranvier, founded in 2004 by the passionate duo of François Dauvergne and Jean-François Ranvier, emphasizes hands-on involvement in vineyard practices and vinification, fostering strong relationships with various winegrowers across the Rhône Valley. Their extensive range covers regions from Côte-Rôtie in the north to the Luberon in the south, including renowned areas like Gigondas, Châteauneuf-du-Pape, and Costières de Nîmes. Dauvergne Ranvier

Style: Winery

Country: France

Region: Rhône Valley

The Rhône Valley does comforting red wine better than almost anywhere else on earth, and Dauvergne Ranvier captures that beautifully. Founded by François Dauvergne and Jean-René Ranvier, the project works closely with growers across the Rhône to create wines that feel deeply rooted in the region while still carrying a fresher and more modern edge.

Grenache and Syrah naturally dominate much of the range, bringing all the things Rhône lovers want to see: dark berries, cracked pepper, wild herbs, spice and plenty of warming southern French character. Thankfully, the wines avoid tipping into the overly heavy or jammy territory that can sometimes make Rhône reds feel like hard work after one glass.

The project covers both Northern and Southern Rhône appellations, from approachable Côtes-du-Rhône bottlings through to more serious wines from areas like Châteauneuf-du-Pape and Gigondas. Across the range there’s a noticeable focus on balance and drinkability alongside richness, which makes the wines feel polished without becoming overly technical or sterile.

There’s also something refreshingly relaxed about the whole operation. Rhône wine can occasionally feel buried under centuries of French wine seriousness and endless village names that nobody pronounces confidently, but Dauvergne Ranvier keeps things approachable while still delivering proper regional character.

At their best, these are wines that remind people why the Rhône became so beloved in the first place. Generous, spicy, warming and wonderfully easy to enjoy whether you’re pairing them with food or just opening a bottle because the weather outside looks mildly miserable.
