Domaine Josmeyer 2018 Gewürztraminer ”Les Folastries”

Gewurztraminer Les Folastries from Josmeyer is a biodynamic Alsace wine known for its off-dry, spicy, and delicate style. Named after Ronsard’s collection of poems, *Livret de Folastries* or ‘book of follies,’ this wine features aromas of lychee combined with North African spices such as cardamom, coriander, and clove. With approximately 7 grams of residual sugar, it presents a drier palate than its nose suggests, showcasing a spicy yet fresh character that pairs superbly with food.

The wine is produced using biodynamic, natural, and organic methods. It is vegan-friendly and comes from over 35-year-old vines grown on sandy, shingle, and silty soils rich in clay, located between Wintzenheim and Turckheim. The estate, established in 1854, is managed by the Meyer family, who transitioned to organic and biodynamic practices in the 1990s under Jean Meyer. Today, his daughters, Céline and Isabelle, continue this tradition, crafting wines that are known for their freshness, complexity, and minerality. 

Josmeyer’s wines benefit from the region's low annual rainfall and the estate’s five distinct terroirs, including the Grand Cru Hengst and Brand. Each wine is handpicked, pressed, and naturally fermented in 100-year-old casks, aged on the lees to enhance its unique character.
