Het Boerenerf’s Gueuze 1871 is a traditional Belgian Oude Gueuze—a spontaneous-fermentation lambic blend of 1-, 2-, and 3-year-old ales brewed locally and aged on-site in oak barrels originally used since the farm’s 1871 construction.

Pouring cloudy golden-blonde with a faint apricot tint, it's lively and effervescent like “Brussels Champagne” (CO₂ around 3.5–4.5 volumes typical of Gueuze.

Aromatically, you’ll detect dried apple, apricot, dry wood, and a touch of Brett funk.

On tasting, expect chalky minerality with tart fruits—green apple, unripe pear, gooseberry—balanced on a creamy bready core, light oak tannin and subtle barnyard notes. Finishes crisp, dry, and slightly saline, with medium tartness and lingering funk. It’s approachable, often dubbed an “introductory” gueuze for its accessible balance.

Brewed at about 6.75% ABV, it's vegan-friendly and still contains gluten. Being a blend, each batch may vary slightly depending on barrel selection and seasonal lambic character.

Ideal served chilled in a tulip or flute glass, it offers a refreshing, palate-cleansing experience, making it a perfect aperitif or companion to aged cheeses, seafood, charcuterie, pickled vegetables, or citrus desserts. It also ages well, evolving oak, funk, and fruit harmony over time .

In short, Gueuze 1871 captures the heritage of its 1871 farmstead home while offering a fresh, gently funky lambic that’s both welcoming and complex.
