Aglianico Janare from the esteemed producer La Guardiense is a vibrant and distinctive wine from the Sannio sub-region in Italy’s Campania. This remarkable grape variety yields an intense wine with flavors of dark cherry, mellow chocolate, and gentle spices. It is hearty, warm, and offers excellent value, whether enjoyed on its own or paired with red meats, Italian red sauces, pizza, and game.
La Guardiense stands as one of Italy’s, and arguably the world’s, premier co-operative wineries. Founded in 1960 by 33 farmers, it has grown to encompass around 1,000 members who cultivate 1,500 hectares of hilly terrain, averaging an elevation of 350 meters. The operation is guided by the legendary Italian winemaker Ricardo Cotarella. Located in the Sannio sub-region within the larger Benevento area, the vineyards benefit from a volcanic landscape of rolling hills and vast plains, creating a unique microclimate ideal for local varieties such as Aglianico, Fiano, Falanghina, and Greco. La Guardiense also prioritizes environmental sustainability, utilizing renewable energy from their innovative photovoltaic system.
