Pet-Nat Funky Mavrud Rose, 2022

This wine is made from 100% Mavrud grapes, a historic Bulgarian variety from 40-year-old vineyards in the Thracian Valley near Novi Izvor, Asenovgrad. Grown at 280m altitude in cinnamon-colored forest soils, the vines are ventilated by cool mountain breezes. Harvested by hand, the wine undergoes natural wild fermentation without yeast or sulphites, finishing fermentation in the bottle and aged for 4 months before disgorgement. It has an ABV of 12%, 7.3 g/l acidity, and 4.2 g/l residual sugars.

About the Maker:

In 2014, Petar Georgiev and Radostin Milkov launched their wine project after gaining international experience in the USA, New Zealand, China, Austria, and Malta. With a mission to elevate Bulgarian grape varieties like Mavrud and Rubin, they scoured Bulgaria to find ideal vineyards, securing 40-year-old Mavrud vines near Novi Izvor and 40-year-old Rubin vines near Brestovitsa. In 2020, they debuted a white wine from the unique Red Misket grape, an uncommon local variety. Their winemaking approach combines modern style with elegance, showcasing the authenticity and beauty of Bulgaria's indigenous grapes. Only 4500 Bottles.

Tasting Notes:

Appearance: Very light pink, slightly cloudy.
Nose: Pronounced aromas of raspberries, strawberries, and fresh herbs.
Palate: Lightly sparkling, fresh, elegant, and light to medium-bodied with intense red fruit notes and a long finish
