Pieropan `Calvarino` Soave Classico
Pieropan `Calvarino` Soave Classico
12.5%
Pieropan Calvarino Soave Classico is a pale straw yellow wine with youthful hues that turn golden with age. It offers fresh, floral aromas of elderflower, lemon, and cherry. The palate is dry, well-balanced, and elegant, with impressive length and finesse.
Calvarino, the first single-vineyard wine in Soave, was introduced in 1971. Named after the steep "little Calvary" vineyard (200-300 m asl) in the Classico Soave area, it features 30-60 year old Garganega and Trebbiano vines grown organically on basalt soils.
The vineyard, owned by the Pieropan family since 1901, is planted at a density of 3,000 vines per hectare and farmed organically. Nino Pieropan's philosophy of meticulous attention to detail is evident in their immaculate winery and exceptional wines. The Pieropan family has been producing wine in Soave since the 1860s and was the first to bottle a wine with the name Soave in the 1930s.
Vinification involves picking Trebbiano di Soave in mid-September and Garganega in October, ensuring optimal ripeness. The free-run juice is fermented at controlled temperatures of 16-18°C, and the wine is aged on its fine lees in glass-lined cement tanks for a year, adding complexity. It is then bottled and released after a few months.
