Blantons Original Bourbon
Blanton's Original Single Barrel Bourbon, introduced in 1984, is renowned as the first modern single barrel bourbon. Crafted at the Buffalo Trace Distillery in Frankfort, Kentucky, it was developed by Master Distiller Elmer T. Lee to honor Colonel Albert B. Blanton, a longtime figure at the distillery.
Each bottle is drawn from a single barrel, specifically selected from the center-cut sections of Warehouse H, the distillery's only metal-clad warehouse. The metal construction facilitates greater temperature fluctuations, accelerating the aging process and contributing to the bourbon's distinctive character.
Blanton's Original is bottled at 93 proof (46.5% ABV) and typically aged for 6 to 8 years. Its flavor profile is characterized by a sweet palate with notes of citrus and oak. The nose offers creamy vanilla, caramel, and butterscotch, complemented by baking spices like clove, nutmeg, and cinnamon.
The bourbon is also known for its unique packaging: a round bottle topped with a metal stopper featuring a horse and jockey. There are eight different stopper designs, each with a letter that, when collected, spell "B-L-A-N-T-O-N-S," depicting various stages of a horse race.
