Cantina del Pino’s Barbaresco DOCG is made from 100 % Nebbiolo grapes grown in the historic family vineyards on the hillsides of Barbaresco. The Vacca family has been working this land since the 1920s, focusing on a respectful, terroir-driven approach. Their farming is both organic and sustainable, with no chemical fertilizers or synthetic pesticides used.
The vines—some over 70 years old, particularly in the Ovello and Albesani crus—are dry-farmed, allowing deep root development and concentration. Canopy management, pruning, and harvest are all done by hand, ensuring precision and the selection of only the best fruit from these prime south- or southwest-facing slopes on calcareous marl soils.
In the cellar, the grapes are destemmed and fermented in stainless steel, then aged for at least two years in oak followed by one year in bottle—in line with DOCG regulations.
They practice light, manual handling throughout winemaking, with minimal intervention: no fining or filtration, and measured use of sulfur. This preserves the fruit’s purity and the distinctive Nebbiolo character—aromas of dark cherry, black pepper, tobacco, licorice, and an elegant tannic structure that is beautifully balanced by fresh acidity .
The outcome is a wine that faithfully reflects Barbaresco’s pedigree: vibrant and age-worthy, responding distinctly to vintage and vineyard, shaped by a careful, low-impact philosophy that starts in the vine and culminates in the glass.
