Domaine S.C. Guillard Gevrey Chambertin Les Platieres 2018

From the steep slopes of the village of Gevrey‑Chambertin in Burgundy’s Côte de Nuits, this wine is crafted by the small, family-run estate of Domaine S.C. Guillard. The vines are planted in red-clay and limestone soils around 280-380 m elevation and benefit from old-vine age and careful viticulture. 

In the cellar the approach is classical: hand-harvested fruit is vinified according to Burgundian tradition—destemmed, fermented in a mix of open vats and barrels under native yeasts, with extended maceration and ageing for roughly a year in French oak (a portion new).

On opening the 2018 displays intense aromas of dark cherry, wild raspberry, fresh violets, forest floor and a subtle flicker of spice and woodland undergrowth. The palate is finely structured, with silky tannins, ripe but fresh fruit and a long mineral-tinged finish that suggests both character and ageing potential.
