A charming Portuguese red from Dão’s cool, granitic hills, this wine is crafted by Dirk Niepoort using hand-harvested old-vine grapes, Touriga Nacional, Jaen, Alfrocheiro (and sometimes Tinta Pinheira), fermented in stainless steel and aged in concrete tanks for about a year before being bottled unfiltered. Expressive yet light-bodied, it opens with a nose of red berries, tobacco leaf, and subtle mint or floral notes; on the palate, lively acidity and fine, rounded tannins deliver freshness and elegance with earthy, herb-tinged complexity
