Le Puy, Bordeaux.

Le Puy, Bordeaux.

A recent and exciting addition to our range of Bordeaux, Le Puy. The estate, situated on the same plateau as Saint Emilion and Pomerol, sits on the second highest point in the Gironde.

This chateau was founded by the Amoreau family, overlooking the Dordogne valley in 1610, 414 years ago. The current generation of winemakers Jean-Pierre, Françoise, and Pascal Amoreau represents the 15th in their family, with traditional methods that have changed little over the centuries. As a result, Château Le Puy Claret carries a flavour profile reminiscent of wines from the 1940s and 1950s, offering a true expression of the terroir, the temperate climate, and the finesse of the grape varieties, the vines, 85% Merlot, 14% Cabernet Sauvignon and 1% of very old Carménère.

The family adhere to biodynamic principles, avoiding chemicals, keeping yields low, and forgoing yeasting or chaptalisation. Their wines undergo long ageing with minimal, if any, added sulphites making these bottles rare in Bordeaux. They aren’t focused on impressing critics or making headlines, nor are they chasing exorbitant prices on the international market (though their value does increase with age). Their only aim is to authentically express what their vineyard naturally produces.

‘Being a wine grower is being an artist with method, audacious with reflection, enthusiast with meditation, ardent with patience, stubborn with imagination, thrifty with generosity.’

We’ve been lucky enough to put some of the Le Puy estates wine on our shelves here in Canonmills and we couldn't be happier. We have good stock of Le Puy ‘Emilien 2020’, and have even been given a tiny allocation of their incredibly rare white Semillon, ‘Marie Cecile 2023’ and their rosé ‘Rose Marie 2023’, of which only 120 bottles were given to the UK.

We hope you will like these as much as we do.

Le Puy 'Emilien 2020' - £50

Le Puy ‘Marie Cecile 2023’ - £69

Le Puy ‘Rose Marie 2023’ - £64
