Floc
East Sussex, Lewes, England
Floc has become one of the UK’s most reliably good hazy beer producers by sticking almost obsessively to one core idea: make ridiculously fresh hop-forward beer and don’t overcomplicate the rest. Based in Canterbury, the brewery started during lockdown on tiny kit before rapidly turning into one of the country’s most respected modern IPA outfits. Quite a glow-up for something that began with homebrew gear and a kitchen slowly losing patience.
The beers lean heavily into New England territory. Soft texture, huge aroma, loads of citrus, peach, pineapple and tropical fruit coming off every pour. But what makes Floc stand out is that the beers still feel clean and focused underneath all the haze. Plenty of modern IPAs disappear into sugary orange juice territory after the second sip. Floc usually keeps enough bitterness and structure around to stop things getting sloppy.
The brewery’s core releases like Whisper and Passage have become favourites among UK craft beer drinkers for exactly that reason. Big flavour without complete palate exhaustion afterwards. The brewery also moves through DIPAs, pilsners, stouts and occasional sours, but hops are very clearly the main event here.
There’s a relaxed energy around the whole project too. Taproom, pizza, fresh cans, good music, dogs wandering about somewhere probably. It all feels built around people actually enjoying beer rather than performing beer appreciation like it’s a tax obligation.
Very easy brewery to accidentally spend too much money on once you start ordering mixed packs.
