About the Brewery.

Mexican lager works best when people stop overthinking it. Cold bottle, warm weather, salty food and enough lime nearby to keep everybody happy. Modelo understand this dynamic perfectly.

Originally brewed in Mexico City in the 1920s, Modelo Especial and Negra Modelo became two of the defining beers of modern Mexican brewing culture before expanding massively internationally. They occupy that very useful middle ground between easy-drinking lager and beer with enough flavour to remain interesting after the first bottle.

Modelo Especial stays crisp, lightly sweet and refreshing with soft grain character and gentle hop bitterness underneath. Negra Modelo moves darker and richer, bringing toasted malt, caramel and bread crust notes while still remaining remarkably drinkable for a darker lager.

What makes Mexican lager work so well generally is balance. Enough body to stand up to spicy food, enough carbonation and freshness to handle heat. These beers were built for actual drinking conditions rather than beer judging competitions.

There’s also something pleasantly straightforward about Modelo’s appeal. No complicated tasting notes required. Just reliable lager that works extremely well with tacos, grilled meat and slightly chaotic evenings outdoors.
