Stigbergets

Sweden was not the first country people associated with modern IPA. Then Stigbergets arrived and made that assumption look slightly outdated.

Founded in Gothenburg, the brewery quickly became one of Scandinavia’s most respected names through heavily hopped pale ales and IPAs that combined modern softness with genuine balance. While many breweries chased haze alone, Stigbergets generally remembered that bitterness and structure still had useful jobs to do.

The beers lean heavily into expressive hopping. Citrus, tropical fruit, stone fruit and pine all feature regularly, often supported by a soft mouthfeel and restrained malt character. Yet the beers rarely feel one-dimensional.

The brewery also explores lagers, stouts, mixed fermentation projects and collaborative releases, showing a broader brewing range than people sometimes expect from producers strongly associated with IPA.

Scandinavian brewing has developed enormously over the last decade, and Stigbergets helped place Sweden firmly within that conversation. Not bad for a brewery named after a district overlooking Gothenburg harbour.
