About the Brewery.

Newcastle has quietly become one of the strongest beer cities in the UK, and Two By Two have been part of that story since the early wave of modern independent brewing arrived in the city.

Founded in 2014, the brewery built its reputation through hop-forward pale ales, IPAs and a constantly rotating lineup of modern craft releases. Like many breweries of that generation, it started small before gradually expanding and eventually moving into a larger brewing and taproom site in Byker.

The beers tend to focus on freshness and drinkability rather than sheer intensity. Hazy pales, New England-style IPAs and seasonal releases feature heavily, often built around bright citrus, tropical fruit and soft bitterness. The brewery has always felt more interested in brewing beer people genuinely want another pint of rather than chasing extremes.

The taproom has become a significant part of the identity as well. Fresh beer, food pop-ups, local events and a strong connection to Newcastle’s independent drinks scene all help make it feel like more than simply a production site.

The North East has produced some excellent breweries over the last decade. Two By Two remain one of the names most closely associated with that rise.
