Valdonica

Tuscany produces plenty of famous wines. Valdonica chose to build something rather different high in the hills of the Maremma.

Located near Monte Amiata in southern Tuscany, the estate works biodynamically and focuses on lower-intervention winemaking across vineyards planted at relatively high altitude. Those cooler conditions help preserve freshness and structure in a part of Tuscany more often associated with warmth and ripeness.

Sangiovese plays an important role, but the winery also works with varieties including Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot and several whites. Across the range there is a noticeable focus on elegance rather than sheer power. Red fruit, herbs, spice and freshness tend to sit ahead of extraction or heavy oak influence.

The vineyards themselves are a large part of the story. Forests, biodiversity and mixed agriculture surround the estate, creating a landscape that feels considerably more agricultural than polished luxury wine destination.

Maremma continues producing some of Italy’s most interesting wines for people willing to look beyond the obvious names. Valdonica fits comfortably into that category.
