Yannick Meckert
Alsace, France
Alsace has no shortage of talented winemakers, but Yannick Meckert feels part of a newer generation more interested in exploring possibilities than following established rules.
Born between two great wine cultures, with a Burgundian mother and an Alsatian father, Meckert spent years working across different wine regions before returning home to build his own project. Since launching his first vintage in 2020, he has quickly become one of the more talked-about names in the natural wine world.
Working organically with a small collection of vineyards around Obernai and Rosheim, he focuses on varieties including Riesling, Pinot Noir, Pinot Gris, Gewürztraminer and Auxerrois. The wines tend to lean towards freshness, texture and energy rather than polished precision. Wild fermentation, minimal intervention and a willingness to ignore appellation expectations all play important roles.
What makes the wines particularly interesting is that they still feel unmistakably Alsatian. Citrus, orchard fruit, spice, florals and mineral character remain present, just delivered through a looser and more expressive lens.
Alsace is currently producing some of France’s most exciting low-intervention wines. Yannick Meckert sits comfortably near the front of that conversation.
