Collection: Organic Wine

Organic wine starts in the vineyard. By farming without synthetic pesticides, herbicides or fertilisers, growers focus on healthier soils, greater biodiversity and vineyards that can thrive for generations. The result isn't one particular style of wine, just a thoughtful approach that often goes hand in hand with exceptional winemaking.

Organic wine starts in the vineyard. Certified organic growers farm without synthetic herbicides, pesticides or fertilisers, instead working with healthier soils, cover crops and biodiversity to produce better grapes. Organic certification also sets rules for winemaking, although exactly what is permitted varies between countries. What matters most to us is that organic farming encourages healthier vineyards that can better express where the wine comes from.

While organic certification is important, it's only part of the story. We choose wines because they're delicious first and foremost, not simply because they carry a logo on the label. Many of the growers we work with have farmed organically for decades, believing that healthier soils and thriving vineyards naturally lead to more balanced, expressive wines. Others are in the process of converting, or work organically without seeking formal certification. For us, the producer always matters as much as the paperwork.

Organic wines come in every style imaginable. You'll find crisp whites, elegant reds, sparkling wines, orange wines and everything in between from regions across France, Italy, Spain, Austria, Germany and beyond. Farming organically doesn't dictate how a wine should taste. Instead, it gives growers the opportunity to produce wines that reflect their vineyards with as little unnecessary intervention as possible, while still making thoughtful decisions in the winery.

There's often some confusion between organic, biodynamic and natural wine. Organic refers to certified farming methods, while biodynamic follows a stricter holistic approach to viticulture, and natural wine generally focuses on minimal intervention in the cellar as well as the vineyard. There's plenty of overlap between the three, but they aren't interchangeable. Many of our favourite producers sit somewhere within that spectrum, united by careful farming and a desire to let their vineyards speak for themselves.

Frequently Asked Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

What makes a wine organic?

Organic wine is made from grapes grown without synthetic herbicides, pesticides or fertilisers. Certified organic producers follow strict farming standards and inspections, helping to protect vineyard biodiversity and soil health.

Does organic wine taste different?

Not necessarily. Organic farming doesn't dictate a particular style of wine. You'll find everything from crisp whites and elegant reds to sparkling and orange wines. The biggest influence on flavour is still the grape variety, the region and the producer.

What's the difference between organic, biodynamic and natural wine?

Organic wine follows certified farming standards. Biodynamic wine takes a broader, holistic approach to farming, while natural wine generally focuses on minimal intervention in both the vineyard and winery. Many producers work across more than one of these approaches.

Are all organic wines vegan?

No. Organic certification relates to how the grapes are grown and the wine is made, not whether animal-derived fining agents have been used. If a wine is vegan, it will usually be labelled separately.

Do organic wines contain sulphites?

Most do. Sulphites occur naturally during fermentation, and small amounts are often added to protect the wine during ageing and transport. Organic wines are produced under rules that limit what can be added, but they are not usually sulphite-free.

Are organic wines better for the environment?

Organic farming encourages healthier soils, biodiversity and avoids the routine use of synthetic chemicals. Many growers choose organic methods because they believe healthier vineyards produce healthier grapes and, ultimately, better wine.
