Sébastien Christophe has become one of the most exciting modern producers in Chablis, building a reputation for precise, mineral-driven Chardonnay from vineyards on the right bank of the Serein river. Based in the small village of Fyé behind the Grand Cru slope, Christophe began in 1999 with a tiny inherited parcel of Petit Chablis planted by his grandfather before gradually expanding through rented and family vineyard holdings.
Over time, the domaine has grown from a small under-the-radar producer into one of the most sought-after independent estates in Chablis, particularly among drinkers looking for wines with clarity, freshness and strong terroir expression. The vineyards are increasingly farmed organically, harvests are carried out by hand and fermentation relies on indigenous yeast to preserve purity and site character.
The wines are especially admired for combining classic Chablis tension and salinity with impressive concentration and texture. Élevage takes place largely in stainless steel, helping retain freshness, citrus character and oyster-shell minerality rather than introducing overt oak influence or richness.
Christophe produces a wide range of wines spanning Petit Chablis, village Chablis, Premier Cru and Grand Cru bottlings, including sites such as Fourchaume, Mont de Milieu and Montée de Tonnerre. Stylistically, the wines lean towards a more traditional expression of Chablis, emphasising chalk, citrus, acidity and mineral precision over broader or more heavily worked styles.
Today Sébastien Christophe is widely regarded as one of the standout small domaines in Chablis, producing wines that combine energy, structure and remarkable drinkability while remaining deeply rooted in the classic identity of the region.
