More About Aberargie Single Malt - Golden Promise

Aberargie is doing something rather interesting with its first range of single malts, exploring the influence of individual barley varieties rather than blending them together. This expression is made entirely from Golden Promise, a heritage barley once widely used in Scotch whisky production and now something of a rarity.

Grown on the Morrison family's own Perthshire farm, the barley is distilled and matured on site, with a combination of first-fill bourbon and sherry casks bringing plenty of depth. Warm buttery pastry and stewed apple lead into brown sugar and gentle baking spices, with a rich, rounded malt character running throughout. The finish is warming and aromatic, with lingering spice and a lovely sweetness.

A proper barley-to-bottle whisky, and an interesting opportunity to taste what Golden Promise brings when given centre stage.

Meet the Producer, Aberargie

Aberargie

Style: Whisky Distillery

Aberargie is one of Scotland’s newer distilleries, but everything about it feels rooted in proper whisky tradition. Based on a family farm just outside Perth, they work barley-to-bottle using grain grown on their own land, giving the whisky a real sense of place from the very beginning. The style leans rich, textured, and quietly elegant, soft orchard fruit, pastry sweetness, gentle spice, and that waxy, weighty character you get from taking your time and doing things properly. Early days for the distillery, but already one that feels worth paying attention to.
