More About Aberargie Single Malt - Laureate

Aberargie is exploring the influence of different barley varieties with its new single malt releases, and Laureate puts this modern Scottish barley firmly in the spotlight. Made entirely from Laureate grown on the Morrison family's Perthshire farm, it's a proper barley-to-bottle whisky, with everything from growing and distilling to maturation and bottling taking place on the estate.

Matured in a combination of first-fill sherry and bourbon casks, with sherry taking the lead, it brings together bright orchard fruit and rich dried-fruit character. Candied orange peel, sultanas and dried apricots lead on the nose, followed by crisp apple and pear on the palate. There's a lovely honeyed sweetness running through it, with gentle oak spice adding depth and a lingering, warming finish.

A fascinating look at what a single barley variety can bring to Scotch whisky.

Aberargie is one of Scotland’s newer distilleries, but everything about it feels rooted in proper whisky tradition. Based on a family farm just outside Perth, they work barley-to-bottle using grain grown on their own land, giving the whisky a real sense of place from the very beginning. The style leans rich, textured, and quietly elegant, soft orchard fruit, pastry sweetness, gentle spice, and that waxy, weighty character you get from taking your time and doing things properly. Early days for the distillery, but already one that feels worth paying attention to.
