Alessandro Viola's Nero d'Avola blend from the valley near Santa Ninfa, coupled with a touch of Nerello from Alcamo, epitomizes the essence of Sicilian terroir. Handpicked and pressed early, these grapes undergo a vinification process in stainless steel, meticulously designed to preserve the inherent freshness of the fruit.

Zesty and vibrant, this medium-bodied natural rosé bursts with the flavors of acidulated red fruits, reminiscent of blood orange, intertwined with subtle peppery aromas. It's a wine perfectly suited for the warmer seasons, offering pure pleasure and undeniable drinkability—a true 'smashable' delight.

Originating from Alcamo, Trapani, in the heart of Sicily, this blend comprises 90% Nero d'Avola and 10% Nerello Mascalese, showcasing the region's rich viticultural heritage. The 2022 vintage boasts an ABV of 13.5%, striking a harmonious balance between flavor intensity and refreshment.

Crafted with meticulous care, the grapes are manually harvested, destemmed, and gently pressed, then fermented with indigenous yeast and aged solely in stainless steel. With minimal intervention, the wine remains unfiltered and unfined, preserving its natural essence. A touch of sulfur dioxide is added at bottling, ensuring stability while maintaining the wine's organic integrity.

This natural, organic rosé comes in a 750ml bottle, inviting you to savor every sip of Sicilian craftsmanship and terroir expression. Alessandro Viola's dedication to purity and authenticity shines through in every aspect of this exquisite wine, making it a true standout in the realm of Sicilian winemaking.

Alessandro Viola

Style: Winery

Country: Italy

Region: Sicily, Alcamo

Alessandro Viola is one of the producers that helped shape the modern natural wine scene in Sicily long before it became fashionable internationally. Based near Alcamo in the north-west of the island, he started bottling wine in the early 2000s after studying both agriculture and oenology, but the overall philosophy has always felt much closer to farming than industrial winemaking. The vineyards are worked organically and biodynamically, harvests are done by hand, fermentations happen naturally with native yeasts, and there’s very little added or taken away in the cellar. Everything is geared towards transparency and letting the vineyards speak as clearly as possible.

What makes Alessandro Viola especially interesting is that the wines never feel made to chase trends within natural wine. There’s no sense of volatility for the sake of it or trying to be deliberately challenging. Instead, the wines tend to feel calm, balanced, and deeply Mediterranean, with loads of freshness, texture, and energy running underneath them. Even the more skin-contact or oxidative styles still carry a kind of elegance and drinkability that keeps people coming back.

There’s also something very personal about the whole project. Alessandro works on a relatively small scale and seems genuinely connected to every part of the process, from vineyard work through to bottling. The labels, the winemaking, the pacing of the wines, everything feels thoughtful without becoming overly romantic or performative. Over time he’s become one of the key names people point towards when talking about low-intervention Sicilian wine done properly, helping show that Sicily can produce wines with just as much finesse and nuance as power and sunshine.
