More About Athletic x Arsenal Clock End Alcohol Free Red Ale

Created in collaboration with Arsenal Football Club, Clock End is Athletic Brewing's take on a classic red ale, inspired by one of the most iconic stands in English football. Brewed exclusively for the UK, it combines rich malt character with surprising drinkability, proving that alcohol-free beer doesn't have to compromise on flavour. Amber in colour with a smooth, balanced finish, it's built for matchday, whether you're at the Emirates or watching from home.

Meet the Producer, Athletic Brewing Co.

Athletic Brewing Co.

Style: Brewery

Athletic Brewing completely changed the conversation around alcohol-free beer over the last few years. Founded in Connecticut in 2017 by Bill Shufelt and brewer John Walker, the brewery started from a fairly simple frustration: non-alcoholic beer at the time was mostly treated as an afterthought. Thin, watery, slightly depressing versions of “real beer” that nobody actually felt excited to drink. Athletic set out to change that completely by building an entire brewery dedicated solely to alcohol-free craft beer rather than treating it as a side project.

What made the brewery stand out almost immediately was the fact they approached non-alcoholic beer like proper craft brewing first and foremost. Instead of removing alcohol from finished beer in a way that stripped out flavour and texture, they developed their own brewing process designed specifically to keep the body, hop character, and balance intact from the start. The result was a range of beers that actually tasted like modern craft beer rather than compromise versions of it.

The timing ended up being perfect too. Athletic arrived just as drinking culture was beginning to shift, particularly among younger drinkers who were becoming more interested in moderation, fitness, mental health, and “mindful drinking” without necessarily giving up beer culture altogether. Athletic leaned into that world heavily. Trail running partnerships, outdoor culture, athletes, climbing, cycling, surf culture, all became deeply tied to the identity of the brewery. Somehow they managed to make alcohol-free beer feel aspirational rather than restrictive.

Despite becoming one of the fastest-growing breweries in the US, the whole project still feels surprisingly approachable. The branding is clean and modern without becoming corporate, and the beers themselves are built around the idea that you shouldn’t need a specific reason to choose alcohol-free beer. Sometimes you just want a really good beer without the alcohol attached to it. That simple shift in thinking is a huge part of why Athletic ended up becoming one of the defining names in modern beer culture far beyond the non-alcoholic category itself.
