Dominique et Janine Crochet Sancerre, « Le Grand Chemarin »
Dominique et Janine Crochet Sancerre, « Le Grand Chemarin »
Le Grand Chemarin is a single-vineyard expression of Sauvignon Blanc, showcasing exceptional structure and texture. Vinified and aged in barrel, the wine balances vibrant fruit with a creamy mouthfeel, offering depth and complexity that elevate it above typical examples of the grape.
The Crochet family, deeply rooted in the historical village of Bué, began their journey in 1982 with just two hectares of vines. Over time, they have grown their Domaine to 13.5 hectares, spread across a diverse range of soils. Eight hectares on limestone (Caillottes) lie in Bué, three on clay (Terres Blanches) in Surry en Vaux, and one on Silex in Bannon. This variety enables them to produce both an expressive village Sancerre and remarkable single-vineyard Crus like Le Grand Chemarin.
This wine comes from a single limestone plot, with vines averaging 40 years old. Organically farmed (with certification pending), the grapes are hand-harvested and sorted before undergoing gentle pressing. Fermentation takes place with native yeasts in a combination of stainless steel, barrel, and amphora. The wine is aged for six months, with weekly lees stirring for the first two months, adding richness and complexity.
Le Grand Chemarin is a testament to the Crochet family’s commitment to quality and tradition, producing a Sauvignon Blanc of elegance and character. Limited production of just 10,000 bottles makes it a rare treat for Sancerre enthusiasts.
