More About Enate Reserva Cabernet Sauvignon

Enate Reserva is a single‑varietal Cabernet Sauvignon from Spain’s Somontano region, crafted by Bodegas Enate. Fermented in stainless steel after hand‑picking, it undergoes malolactic in French oak before ageing 12 months in new French barrels and further maturation in tank. Released after over two years in bottle, it approaches.

In the glass it’s deeply garnet, with an opaque core. The nose offers ripe blackberries, blackcurrants and compote, overlain with minty balsamic tones and warmly spiced notes of vanilla, black pepper and bay leaf . On the palate it’s full-bodied and structured, with firm yet polished tannins and lingering flavours of toast, tobacco and clove, finishing long and savory.

Meet the Producer, Enate

Enate

Style: Winery

Enate has become one of Spain’s most recognisable modern wineries by combining polished international winemaking with the rugged landscapes of Somontano, a region sitting right against the foothills of the Pyrenees. While Rioja and Ribera del Duero tend to dominate conversations about Spanish wine, Enate quietly built a huge reputation by proving Somontano could produce seriously impressive wines in its own right. Thankfully without needing to scream about it constantly.

The winery works across a wide range of styles, but Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Tempranillo, Chardonnay and Gewürztraminer all feature heavily throughout the portfolio. The wines lean modern, expressive and fruit-forward while still carrying enough freshness and structure to avoid becoming heavy or overblown. Enate Chardonnay in particular has become something of a benchmark for rich Spanish white wine, balancing ripe tropical fruit and creamy texture with enough acidity to stop things turning into alcoholic custard.

One of Enate’s defining characteristics is its strong connection to contemporary art. Every bottle label features artwork commissioned from modern Spanish artists, giving the winery a distinctly creative identity that feels far more thoughtful than the usual “draw a castle and hope for the best” approach many wineries fall back on.

Underneath the polished branding there’s serious winemaking quality too. The climate in Somontano allows for big temperature swings between day and night, helping the grapes retain freshness while still achieving full ripeness. That balance comes through clearly across the range, with wines that feel generous and approachable while staying impressively clean and structured.
