Hacker-Pschorr's Oktoberfestbier has a bit more colour and malt character than some of the paler Festbiers, pouring a bright amber with a soft, rounded body. The brewery highlights honey and light caramel alongside a noticeable but restrained hop character, giving it a richer, slightly sweeter profile while still keeping that classic Munich drinkability. At 6%, it's got enough weight for a big plate of roast pork or sausages, but remains properly süffig.

Hacker Pschorr is one of Munich’s great historic breweries and one of the names most closely tied to traditional Bavarian beer culture. Founded back in the 1400s, the brewery has survived wars, royal politics, industrialisation and modern craft beer trends, which honestly feels more impressive than surviving Oktoberfest tourists asking for “a stein of lager” every autumn.

The brewery is best known for classic Munich styles done properly. Their Kellerbier, Münchner Gold and Weissbier all lean heavily into traditional Bavarian brewing, focusing on balance, drinkability and clean malt character rather than huge bitterness or gimmicks. The beers tend to have that lovely soft German malt profile with fresh bread, honey, gentle spice and crisp noble hop bitterness holding everything together.

Hacker Pschorr has long been associated with Munich beer halls and Oktoberfest culture, and the beers really do feel built for exactly that environment. Big glasses, roast pork, pretzels and conversations that somehow last six hours longer than intended. There’s a richness and smoothness to the beers that makes them dangerously easy to keep drinking.

Despite the size and history of the brewery, the beers still feel genuinely traditional rather than overly industrial. There’s proper respect for classic German brewing methods here, with a focus on consistency and drinkability over chasing trends.
