More About Mauro Franchino Gattinara 2022

Mauro Franchino's Gattinara is Nebbiolo in its traditional northern Piedmont form: fragrant, savoury and firmly structured, with little interest in softening its edges. Made from 100% Nebbiolo grown on the rocky, iron-rich soils around Gattinara, the wine is fermented in concrete before spending at least three years ageing in large, old oak casks.

Wild cherry and dried red berries lead the way, joined by dried rose petals, rhubarb and a touch of spice. Beneath the fruit, earthy notes of damp leaves, leather and iron bring plenty of savoury depth. Bright acidity and firm, drying tannins give the wine its backbone, while a long, mineral finish keeps everything fresh and focused.

A proper old-school Gattinara, built around Nebbiolo's perfume, structure and savoury character, with plenty of potential to develop in the cellar.
