There's a lovely wildness to Sinergo.

The fruit is unmistakably Tuscan, all dark cherry, plum, and sun-baked herbs, but underneath there's something more savoury and earthy going on. It feels less polished than many modern Tuscan reds, and all the more interesting for it.

A bit of air brings out notes of rosemary, tobacco, and warm stone, while the palate stays surprisingly fresh. It's the kind of wine that seems to settle into itself as the evening goes on, becoming more expressive with every glass.

This isn't a blockbuster Super Tuscan or a heavily oaked showpiece. Instead, it feels honest and grounded, with plenty of character and a real sense of where it comes from. The tannins are present but relaxed, the fruit is generous without being flashy, and everything seems to pull in the same direction.

Give it something simple: grilled lamb, slow-cooked beans, a bowl of pappardelle ragù. Wines like this don't need much encouragement.

A bottle that feels more like a good conversation than a performance.

Don’t forget your corkscrew 🍷

Molino Terramadre

Style: Winery

Country: Italy

Region: Montalcino, Tuscany

Molino Terramadre is a relatively young estate, but it comes from a part of Italy where wine has never really been a passing trend. Found in the rolling hills of Montalcino in southern Tuscany, the project is built around a simple idea: healthy vineyards, thoughtful farming and wines that reflect the landscape rather than the winemaker's ego. Sometimes that is harder than it sounds.

The estate has embraced regenerative agriculture from the outset and achieved organic certification in 2023. That commitment runs through everything they do in the vineyard. Rather than chasing maximum yields, the focus is on soil health, biodiversity and producing fruit with real character. It's the sort of approach that has become increasingly common among the best growers in Tuscany, although talking about it is often easier than doing it.

Montalcino, of course, is the home of Brunello, one of Italy's most celebrated red wines. Sangiovese thrives here thanks to the combination of altitude, warm Mediterranean influence and cooling air flowing down from the surrounding hills. The result is a style that can balance power with freshness, producing wines that manage to feel both structured and surprisingly energetic at the same time.

What makes Molino Terramadre particularly interesting is the setting. The vineyards sit where woodland, mountain air and maritime influences meet, creating a patchwork of conditions that give depth and complexity to the fruit. These are not heavily polished wines built for instant gratification. They are wines that reward a bit of patience, whether that's a few hours in a decanter or a few years in the cellar.

For drinkers exploring modern Tuscany, Molino Terramadre offers a good example of where the region is heading. Respect for tradition remains firmly in place, but it's paired with a more thoughtful approach to farming and sustainability. The result feels distinctly Tuscan, unmistakably Montalcino and refreshingly free from unnecessary fuss.
