More About Moosehead Lager Can

For over 150 years, Moosehead has proudly remained independent. Founded in 1867 and still owned by the Oland family, it is Canada's last major genuinely Canadian-owned brewery. Now in its sixth generation, the family has weathered everything from devastating fires and Prohibition to the Great Depression, two world wars and competition from global brewing giants.

Brewed using 100% Canadian barley malt, the brewery's own longstanding yeast culture and pure water from Spruce Lake, Moosehead is given a little more time in the brewing process than your typical mass-produced lager, helping develop its distinctive character.

Light, crisp and refreshing, with delicate hop aromas and lively carbonation that gives it a surprisingly satisfying mouthfeel. There's a gentle malt character, a touch of bitterness and a beautifully clean finish that keeps you coming back for another sip.

An easy-drinking Canadian classic and an excellent match for a proper cheeseburger.

Meet the Producer, Moosehead

Moosehead

Style: Brewery

Canadian lager tends to operate with a certain practical confidence. Cold climate, long winters and people who know exactly what they want from beer after work. Moosehead fit that tradition perfectly.

Founded in New Brunswick in 1867, Moosehead remains Canada’s oldest independent brewery and still family-owned, which feels increasingly rare in large-scale brewing. The flagship lager style leans crisp, lightly malty and highly drinkable without trying to reinvent beer entirely.

The beers themselves tend to favour balance over intensity. Clean grain character, gentle bitterness and enough body to stand up to food or colder weather without becoming heavy. This is very much “actual beer for actual drinking” territory rather than craft brewing experimentation.

There’s also something distinctly Canadian about the whole brand identity. Forests, lakes, outdoors and straightforward lager culture all wrapped together without excessive irony attached.

Sometimes that’s exactly what beer should be. Reliable, refreshing and best consumed somewhere involving cold air and grilled food.
