Founded in 1900 in Mazatlán by German settlers and later acquired by Grupo Modelo, its distinctive taste and iconic packaging made it popular with American surfers, leading to U.S. exports from 1985.

Pacifico Clara is named so because the Pacifico brewery is located in the Pacific Ocean port city of Mazatlán, in the state of Sinaloa, México.
