Vesevo Beneventano Aglianico is a distinguished red wine from the Benevento region in Campania, Italy, produced by the esteemed Vesevo winery. Crafted from 100% Aglianico grapes, this wine embodies the rich viticultural heritage of Southern Italy.

The 2022 vintage presents a deep ruby red color with aromas of ripe black fruits, such as blackberries and plums, complemented by subtle hints of chocolate, mocha, and a touch of vanilla. On the palate, it is medium to full-bodied with balanced acidity and soft tannins, leading to a smooth, lingering finish.

This wine pairs excellently with a variety of dishes, including grilled meats, hearty stews, and aged cheeses, enhancing the dining experience with its harmonious flavors.

Campania often feels like one of Italy’s most underrated wine regions. Ancient grape varieties, volcanic soils, dramatic landscapes and remarkably good food usually seem like a fairly strong starting point.

Vesevo focuses entirely on southern Italian varieties grown in the hills inland from Naples, particularly around Irpinia. The vineyards sit at elevation on volcanic-influenced soils shaped over centuries by ash and geological activity linked to Mount Vesuvius, which gives the project its name.

The range highlights many of Campania’s most important grapes. Aglianico delivers dark fruit, spice, structure and ageing potential, while Falanghina, Greco and Fiano bring citrus, stone fruit, texture and freshness. Across the wines there is a noticeable balance between ripe southern fruit and surprisingly vibrant acidity.

What makes Campania particularly interesting is that so many of its best grapes remain deeply regional. Rather than relying heavily on international varieties, producers like Vesevo lean into local identity.

Italian wine becomes much more interesting once you move beyond the obvious regions. Campania tends to reward that decision rather quickly.
