This wine is a harmonious blend of Blaufränkisch and Zweigeltrebe, with equal parts of each grape variety. The grapes were harvested and processed together, undergoing fermentation in open tubs where they macerated on the skins for 10 days. The wine was then aged for 18 months in old oak barrels, allowing it to develop complexity while preserving its vibrant character.

This blend captures the best qualities of both varietal, the light, fruity notes of Blaufränkisch paired with the juicy, subtly earthy tones of Zweigeltrebe. Despite its depth of flavor, the wine boasts a refreshingly low alcohol content, making it wonderfully drinkable.

Voni Wine

Style: Winery

Country: Czech Republic

Region: Moravia

Voni Wine is the sort of small Central European wine project that reminds you how much interesting wine still exists well outside the usual headline regions.

Founded by Niky and Vojta, the winery operates on a remarkably small scale in the Czech Republic, producing only a few thousand bottles a year. Alongside vineyard work they also keep sheep and somehow still find time for other projects, which feels suspiciously ambitious.

The wines are produced with a low-intervention mindset and a clear focus on local vineyard expression. Varieties such as Zweigelt and Blaufränkisch appear regularly, often resulting in fresh, juicy reds with bright berry fruit, gentle spice and plenty of drinkability.

Production remains tiny, with some cuvées limited to fewer than a hundred bottles. That scarcity is partly why the wines developed a loyal following among people already paying close attention to the Czech natural wine scene.

The Czech Republic continues producing increasingly exciting artisan wine, particularly from Moravia. Voni feels very much part of that newer generation. Small scale, thoughtful and refreshingly unconcerned with becoming a global brand.
