Domaine Josmeyer is one of the most respected and influential estates in Alsace, producing biodynamic wines from the village of Wintzenheim near Colmar since the mid-19th century. Founded in 1854 by the Meyer family, the domaine is now run by sisters Céline and Isabelle Meyer, the fifth generation to oversee the estate and the first generation of women to lead the winery.
Over time, Josmeyer has become closely associated with dry, terroir-driven Alsace wines that balance aromatic intensity with freshness, precision and remarkable gastronomic versatility. The estate farms around 25 hectares spread across nearly 90 vineyard parcels, including important holdings within the Grand Cru sites of Hengst and Brand.
Biodynamic farming has been central to the domaine since 2000, with vineyard work focused heavily on biodiversity, healthy soils and minimal intervention. Grapes are harvested by hand and fermented slowly using indigenous yeast in large old foudres, helping preserve texture, minerality and vineyard expression rather than imposing overt winemaking influence.
Riesling, Pinot Gris, Gewurztraminer and Pinot Blanc all play important roles in the range, producing wines that combine floral aromatics, citrus, stone fruit and saline minerality with freshness and structure. Alongside classic Alsace varieties, the domaine also produces more experimental bottlings and skin-contact wines that have helped position Josmeyer at the forefront of modern Alsace wine culture.
The wines are especially admired for their energy, precision and ability to pair naturally with food, balancing concentration and aromatic complexity with restraint and drinkability. Domaine Josmeyer remains one of the defining names in contemporary Alsace wine, equally respected by traditional wine drinkers and the modern low-intervention wine scene.
