Bratwurst is simple, satisfying food that doesn't need much fuss. Whether it's sizzling off the barbecue, served with sauerkraut and mustard or tucked into a fresh roll, the combination of juicy pork, gentle spice and smoky char makes it a natural match for a wide range of drinks.

Classic German lagers are hard to beat, with crisp bitterness and clean malt flavours cutting through the richness of the sausage. Wheat beers, amber lagers and easy-drinking reds are excellent choices too, especially when caramelised onions, smoky sauces or grilled vegetables join the plate.
