Sorre

Style: Cider Maker

Country: France

Region: Normandy

French cider often receives far less attention than it deserves, particularly outside Normandy where some of the world’s best apple-based drinks continue quietly existing regardless of fashion. Sorre has been part of that tradition for generations.

Based in Normandy, the producer focuses on cider, poiré and Calvados using local orchard fruit and traditional methods. The region’s bittersweet apples provide the tannin, acidity and structure that separate serious cider from sugary soft drinks pretending to be alcohol.

The ciders tend to show fresh apple skin, orchard fruit, gentle spice and natural freshness, while the Calvados develops deeper notes of baked apple, vanilla and oak with age. Across the range there is a strong sense of agricultural identity.

Normandy remains one of the great cider regions of the world because the fruit itself remains central. Producers like Sorre understand that perfectly.

Good cider often feels closer to wine than beer, and Sorre provides a useful reminder of exactly why.
