More About Château Dauphiné-Rondillon - Loupiac - Cuvée d’Or 2015

From the rolling hills of Loupiac, Château Dauphiné-Rondillon “Cuvée d’Or” 2015 is a beautifully mature sweet wine that delivers all the richness and elegance you’d hope for from one of Bordeaux’s classic dessert wine appellations.

Made primarily from Sémillon with Sauvignon Blanc, and harvested through multiple passes to select perfectly botrytised fruit, the wine opens with luxurious aromas of honey, apricot, candied citrus, acacia blossom, and marmalade, alongside delicate notes of spice and toasted oak.

The palate is luscious and layered, balancing concentrated sweetness with vibrant acidity and remarkable freshness. Waves of ripe stone fruit, mirabelle plum, exotic fruit, and honeyed richness are lifted by a fine mineral tension and subtle bitters that keep the finish poised and elegant rather than heavy.

Now with a decade of age beginning to soften and deepen its character, the 2015 vintage shows both opulence and refinement in equal measure. Perfect alongside blue cheese, foie gras, fruit-based desserts, or simply enjoyed slowly on its own at the end of a meal.

A quietly outstanding Loupiac that offers the pleasure and complexity of far more famous sweet Bordeaux wines, with tremendous charm and value.

Meet the Producer, Château Dauphiné-Rondillon

Château Dauphiné-Rondillon

Style: Winery

Château Dauphiné-Rondillon belongs to the wonderfully underrated world of sweet Bordeaux, where carefully botrytised grapes quietly produce some of France’s most luxurious wines while everyone else gets distracted arguing about red wine scores.

Located in Loupiac on the right bank of the Garonne River, the estate specialises in luscious dessert wines made primarily from Sémillon, Sauvignon Blanc and Muscadelle. The local climate encourages noble rot, the magical fungal process that shrivels grapes, concentrates sugars and somehow creates flavours tasting simultaneously like honey, apricot, marmalade and liquid gold.

What makes Château Dauphiné-Rondillon especially appealing is the balance. Great sweet wine should never simply taste sugary, and these wines carry lovely freshness underneath all the richness. Citrus, stone fruit, honey and floral notes all layer together while the acidity keeps everything alive and surprisingly elegant.

Loupiac often lives slightly in the shadow of nearby Sauternes, but that usually just means the wines massively overdeliver for the money. The style remains deeply classic Bordeaux dessert wine without requiring auction-house budgets or tiny crystal glasses guarded by nervous collectors.

There’s also something wonderfully old-fashioned about sweet wine culture generally. These are bottles built for long meals, blue cheese, fruit tarts and people unapologetically enjoying indulgence rather than pretending dessert is unnecessary adulthood discipline.

France remains very good at this particular lesson.
