Domaine Didier Dagueneau’s Blanc Etc… 2020 is a pure and expressive Sauvignon Blanc from the flinty, limestone-rich slopes of Saint-Andelain in the Loire Valley. Made by Louis-Benjamin Dagueneau, this cuvée sits just outside the Pouilly-Fumé appellation but embodies the same precision and intensity that define the domaine’s reputation. The fruit is hand-harvested from low-yielding vines, fermented with native yeasts in oak and large old vats, and aged on lees for texture and depth.

The 2020 vintage shines with tension and purity, aromas of white peach, lime zest, and crushed stone unfold into a palate that’s vibrant, mineral, and finely etched. A hint of smoke and citrus pith lingers through the long, saline finish. Elegant yet energetic, this is a benchmark example of Dagueneau’s craftsmanship and a thrilling expression of Loire terroir.

Domaine Dagueneau

Style: Winery

Country: France

Region: Loire Valley, Pouilly-Fumé

Sauvignon Blanc has two very different personalities. One side gives you cheap supermarket tropical fruit juice pretending to be wine. The other side gives you Domaine Dagueneau.

Founded by the legendary Didier Dagueneau in Pouilly-Fumé, the domaine completely changed what people thought Sauvignon Blanc could be. These wines are intense, mineral, smoky and astonishingly precise, built with the sort of obsessive attention to detail that borders on slightly unhinged genius. In a good way.

The vineyards are farmed meticulously, yields stay painfully low and the wines are handled with incredible care in the cellar. The result is Sauvignon Blanc that feels huge in flavour while still staying razor-sharp and elegant. Citrus, flint, herbs, stone fruit and smoky minerality all collide together in wines that age far better than most people think Sauvignon Blanc possibly could.

Even the names carry personality. Silex, Pur Sang and Buisson Renard have all become iconic bottles among Loire lovers, partly because they taste so distinctive and partly because Dagueneau himself became such a legendary figure in the wine world.

What’s especially impressive is how uncompromising the domaine remains. These are not easy crowd-pleasing wines designed to disappear at garden parties. They demand attention a bit more than that. But once people properly get into great Loire Sauvignon through producers like Dagueneau, it becomes very difficult to go backwards.

Possibly the wine equivalent of hearing your favourite album on proper speakers for the first time.
