More About Domaine Henri Germain et Fils Meursault 2022

Nestled in the village of Meursault in Burgundy’s Côte de Beaune, the Domaine’s vineyards extend across some of the region’s finest sites. Their holdings span roughly 8 hectares, covering exemplary plots such as Les Perrières, Les Charmes, Les Poruzots, Le Limozin and Les Chevalières, many planted on limestone-rich soils with old vines dating back decades. 

The specific 2022 village‐level Meursault is drawn from eight lieux-dits including Les Vireuils, Clos du Cromin and Les Pellans, with an average vine age in excess of 50 years, lending depth, complexity and minerality to the final wine

The Meursault opens with crisp aromas of green apple, pear and a touch of honey-dew melon, layered with delicate white flowers and a suggestion of warm brioche.

On the palate the wine is medium to full-bodied, offering generous orchard fruit and citrus, underpinned by sleek minerality and finely-balanced acidity, leading to a finish that is both saline and persistent. With its mix of fruit weight and structural poise, it bridges accessibility now with the promise of age-worthy depth.

Style: Winery

Meursault has a reputation for rich buttery white wine, but Domaine Henri Germain et Fils goes in a much more precise and elegant direction. Which is probably why Burgundy obsessives get so excited about these bottles.

Based in Meursault, the family domaine produces Chardonnay that feels incredibly detailed and restrained. Oak is used carefully, acidity stays bright and the wines carry loads of mineral tension underneath all the citrus, hazelnut and stone fruit character. Nothing feels overblown or sleepy.

The style here is all about balance. You still get texture and depth, but without burying the vineyard character under layers of vanilla and toast. Even the richer Premier Cru wines stay focused and energetic.

There’s also a sort of calm precision running through the entire range. The wines feel very deliberate without becoming clinical or cold. Just beautifully judged white Burgundy made by people who clearly trust their vineyards enough not to overwork them.
