More About Domaine Kientzler Pinot Gris
Domaine Kientzler’s Pinot Gris comes from the family’s estate in Ribeauvillé, in the Alsace region. The vineyards for this wine are situated on calcareous-marl and sandstone soils, terroir that tends to give the wines a strong mineral backbone, even when the fruit is expressive.
In the glass the wine shows a pale straw-yellow colour. On the nose it offers aromas of white-fleshed fruit such as pear and mirabelle, sometimes with hints of white cherry or delicate florals, and a gentle mineral or “stone” character that reflects its soil origins.
On the palate it is dry, with good acidity, a lean but fairly generous weight for Pinot Gris, and a texture that balances freshness and depth, a wine that manages fruitiness and structure without flabbiness.
Domaine Kientzler handle their wines classically: the result is a Pinot Gris that expresses both the fruit and the terroir, approachable in its youth, yet with enough mineral spine and balance to offer some development if cellared a few years.
