More About Domaine Marc Colin Santenay Les Champs Claude 2015 Pinot Noir

Marc Colin’s Santenay Les Champs Claude 2015 is one of those bottles that reminds you how good mature Burgundy can be when it’s left alone to do its thing.

A decade on from harvest, the wine has moved beyond youthful fruit into something far more layered and rewarding. Red cherry and raspberry are still there, but now they sit alongside dried rose petals, forest floor, warm spice, and that unmistakable savoury edge that great Pinot Noir develops with age.

The 2015 vintage brought ripeness and generosity across Burgundy, and here it gives the wine a beautifully supple texture without losing freshness. There’s depth and concentration, but it stays elegant throughout, with fine tannins and a gentle earthy complexity carrying through the finish.

What makes this so appealing now is the balance between maturity and energy. It has all the secondary character Burgundy lovers chase, while still retaining enough fruit and brightness to feel alive and vibrant in the glass.

Perfect with roast duck, mushroom dishes, game birds, or simply the sort of meal where the wine deserves as much attention as the food. Mature Burgundy without the grand cru price tag, and drinking in a very good place right now.

Meet the Producer, Domaine Marc Colin

Domaine Marc Colin

Style: Winery

Domaine Marc Colin is one of the great white wine estates of the Côte de Beaune and exactly the sort of Burgundy producer that makes Chardonnay lovers start speaking in increasingly dramatic emotional language after the second glass. Based in Saint-Aubin, the domaine has been family run for generations and today continues under the guidance of Marc Colin’s children, producing beautifully precise wines from some of Burgundy’s most respected vineyard sites.

The estate is especially famous for Saint-Aubin, Chassagne-Montrachet and Puligny-Montrachet, with wines that balance richness and minerality brilliantly. These are proper classic white Burgundies packed with citrus, white peach, hazelnut, subtle oak spice and loads of chalky tension underneath. Everything feels focused and energetic rather than heavy or overworked, which sadly cannot be said for every expensive Chardonnay wandering around Burgundy these days.

What makes Domaine Marc Colin particularly impressive is the consistency across the range. Even the supposedly “simpler” wines carry huge amounts of detail and finesse. Oak is handled carefully, acidity stays bright and the vineyard character always comes through clearly instead of getting buried under layers of creamy winemaking tricks.

There’s also something wonderfully understated about the domaine. No flashy branding, no desperate luxury positioning, just meticulous vineyard work and quietly exceptional wines that serious Burgundy drinkers have been hoarding for years. Understandably so really.
