Domaine Saint Cyr La Galoche Rouge is a joyful, easy-drinking Gamay from Beaujolais made by Raphaël Saint-Cyr in Anse, from vines about 25-40 years old planted on clay-limestone soils. It’s organically farmed, uses natural yeast, undergoes cold carbonic maceration (about 3-15 days depending on the vintage), and is aged primarily in concrete for roughly 6 months. It’s bottled unfined and unfiltered with minimal sulphur added at bottling.

The wine offers fresh red fruit character: strawberries, raspberries, and cherries, with subtle herbal and spice undertones. Its texture is light and fluid, with silky tannins and bright acidity, finishing gently with aromatic herbs and a clean lick of minerality. Excellent as a go--with-anything wine and great for drinking now.

Domaine Saint Cyr

Style: Winery

Country: France

Region: Beaujolais

Domaine Saint Cyr is one of the rising stars of Beaujolais and exactly the kind of producer that reminds people Gamay can be far more serious, complex and addictive than its outdated supermarket reputation ever suggested. Run by Raphaël Saint-Cyr, the domaine farms organically across several Beaujolais appellations, focusing heavily on old vines, low intervention and wines packed with energy and personality.

The wines lean into freshness and purity rather than heavy extraction or oak. Expect bright cherry, raspberry, wild strawberry and floral notes backed by earthy spice and that lovely crunchy minerality good Beaujolais seems to deliver so effortlessly. Even the richer cru wines stay lively and dangerously drinkable rather than becoming overly dense or serious.

What makes Domaine Saint Cyr especially appealing is how naturally balanced the wines feel. There’s a modern low intervention mindset running through the domaine, but the wines stay clean, focused and full of life rather than drifting into funky chaos. They capture all the joyful side of Beaujolais while still offering enough depth to keep proper wine obsessives fascinated.

There’s also a lovely honesty to the whole project. These are wines made for tables, friends and actual drinking rather than trophy cellars and performative tasting notes. Which honestly feels very Beaujolais in the best possible way.
