Emmanuel Giboulot Bourgogne Rouge 2023 is a 100% Pinot Noir made biodynamically.

It shows a delicate, pale-red colour with aromas of strawberry, cherry, a hint of violet and black liquorice. In the cellar, it’s fermented with native yeasts in open wooden vats, then aged for 12 months in old oak, giving it a fresh, mineral fruit profile and soft, well-integrated tannins.

Emmanuel Giboulot

Style: Winery

Country: France

Region: Burgundy, Beaune

Emmanuel Giboulot has become one of Burgundy’s most respected organic and biodynamic winemakers by stubbornly refusing to compromise on how he believes vineyards should be farmed. Long before organic wine became fashionable enough to charge an extra fifteen quid for, Giboulot was already working naturally in Burgundy and building a reputation for wines that feel deeply connected to both place and vintage.

Based in Beaune, the domaine works across several appellations throughout Burgundy, including Côte de Beaune, Hautes-Côtes de Nuits and Rully. Chardonnay and Pinot Noir dominate the vineyards, producing wines that lean heavily into purity, freshness and mineral character rather than excessive oak or heavy extraction. The reds tend to feel delicate, earthy and finely structured, while the whites combine tension, texture and beautifully precise fruit.

Giboulot gained wider international attention after famously refusing to spray chemical treatments in his vineyards during a government-mandated pesticide campaign, becoming something of a symbol for independent organic winemaking in France. Thankfully the wines themselves fully justify the reputation, carrying a sense of honesty and transparency that reflects the farming philosophy behind them.

What makes the wines especially appealing is how alive they feel. There’s energy, movement and subtle complexity running through the range without anything becoming overworked or forced. Burgundy can occasionally disappear into luxury branding and collector nonsense, but Giboulot’s wines stay refreshingly grounded in farming, terroir and drinkability.

For Burgundy drinkers looking for wines with genuine character and authenticity, Emmanuel Giboulot consistently delivers bottles that feel thoughtful, elegant and unmistakably connected to the land they come from.
