Château Le Puy “Émilien” 2019 is one of Bordeaux’s most iconic natural wines, produced at the historic Château Le Puy estate in the Côtes de Bordeaux region. Farmed biodynamically for generations and made with minimal intervention, Le Puy has developed cult status among wine enthusiasts for producing elegant, age-worthy Bordeaux that prioritises purity, freshness and terroir expression over extraction or heavy oak influence.

Named after an ancestor of the Amoreau family, Émilien is the estate’s flagship cuvée and is typically composed predominantly of Merlot alongside Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Malbec and Carmenère depending on vintage conditions. The 2019 vintage benefited from warm growing conditions balanced by freshness, producing a wine with both concentration and remarkable energy.

Fermented using indigenous yeasts and aged in old oak barrels without aggressive extraction, the wine retains exceptional finesse and transparency. On the nose, expect aromas of black cherry, plum, violets, graphite, forest floor and subtle spice. The palate is fresh and layered with dark berry fruit, earthy minerality, soft tannins and vibrant acidity leading into a long savoury finish.

Unlike many modern Bordeaux wines, Le Puy Émilien focuses on balance, elegance and drinkability rather than heavy oak or excessive power. The result is a deeply expressive wine that evolves beautifully with air and bottle age.

Best served lightly below room temperature and ideally decanted before drinking. It pairs beautifully with roast lamb, duck, mushrooms, charcuterie and aged cheeses.

Widely regarded as one of the benchmark natural Bordeaux wines, Château Le Puy Émilien 2019 is a remarkable expression of traditional low-intervention winemaking.
