More About Marques de Legarda Rioja Reserva 1995

A proper old-school Rioja from Bodegas de la Real Divisa in Ábalos, made from the classic Rioja trio of Tempranillo, Graciano and Mazuelo. The winery has roots stretching back centuries, and its Reserva is traditionally matured for an extended period in both American and French oak. The 1995 vintage is now showing the benefits of nearly three decades in bottle, with the fresh fruit of Rioja giving way to more savoury, developed character.

There's plenty of ripe red fruit beneath the evolution, with dried herbs, tobacco, leather and seasoned oak beginning to take over. The palate is soft and rounded, with mature tannins, good structure and a long, savoury finish. A fascinating bottle for anyone who likes their Rioja with a bit of age and plenty of old-school character.
