Meet the Producer, Jules Clairon

Jules Clairon

Style: Distillery

Jules Clairon sits firmly in the category of French brandy that people massively underestimate until they actually pour a glass. It’s not trying to be ultra-luxury Cognac with velvet boxes and celebrity ambassadors, it’s just straightforward oak-aged French brandy that does exactly what you want it to do. Warm, mellow and slightly old-fashioned in a reassuring way.

The style leans soft and approachable. Honeyed fruit, vanilla, dried dates, a bit of nutty spice and gentle oak all floating around together without too much alcohol burn getting in the way. A lot of bottles get aged in small oak barrels for around a year, giving the spirit enough smoothness to sip neat while still working brilliantly in cocktails or cooking.

Honestly, this is the sort of brandy that ends up living permanently in somebody’s kitchen cupboard because it somehow works for everything. Christmas cake, French onion soup, brandy butter, hot toddies, late-night “small” pours that mysteriously become much larger than intended.

There’s also a nice lack of pretension to it. Jules Clairon knows exactly what it is. Affordable French brandy with proper warmth and richness, built for drinking rather than collecting.

Very solid “always useful to have around” bottle energy.
