More About Vieille Telegraph, Chateauneuf-du-Pape 2007

A classic old-school Châteauneuf-du-Pape from the Brunier family, made from the famous La Crau plateau. The 2007 vintage was a warm, generous year, and this is a particularly powerful expression, built around Grenache with Mourvèdre, Syrah and smaller amounts of Cinsault and other local varieties. After long fermentation, it spent around 20 months in large French oak foudres, allowing the fruit and the stony character of La Crau to knit together.

Now with almost two decades of bottle age, the wine has developed plenty of savoury complexity alongside its rich dark fruit. Expect black cherry, cassis and plum with dried flowers, garrigue, liquorice, black pepper and warm stone. Full-bodied and beautifully structured, but with the tannins now softened, it finishes long, savoury and mineral.
